Sri Krishna Temple
The Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, which is synonymous with the
name Udupi, is
situated in Car Street, the hub of religious activity. The
main attraction of this temple is the 'Kanakana kindi'- a
small window through which Krishna is believed to have given
darshan to his devotee, Kanakadasa, a saint-ministrel. The
temple is surrounded by the Eight Maths, that were founded
by the great sage Sri Madhwacharya. Car street is also famous
for centuries old Shiva seat, these are the temples of Sri
Anantheshwara and Sri Chandramoulishwara which are thronged
by thousands of devotees throughout the year.
Malpe
This place is situated 5 Km west of Udupi town and takes visitors
by surprise with its natural beautiful scenes. Malpe is a
major fishing harbor and a drive along its fabulous beach
is indeed exhilarating. The Vadabhandeshwara Temple in Malpe
is famous and the image of Sri Balarama, installed by Sri
Madhwacharya can be seen here.
St. Mary's Islands
A small group of islands that are accessible by
ferry from Malpe. Vasco da Gama appears to have touched the
island in 1498 before he reached Calicut.
The Islands are just a few scattered projections of rock rising
out of the Arabian Sea round about Malpe. The northern most
island is about a square mile in area and not more than 250
yards in width. It has a coconut garden, which makes it the
shadiest isle of the group. It is noted for its famous basalt
rocks, which have crystallized into columns and split into
hexagonal mosaic. It is perhaps the only spot in India where
basaltic rocks show up in such peculiar formations.
Kaup 
Situated 12 Km south of Udupi, on the coastal belt that passes
through the West Coast National Highway, Kaup has a lovely
beach, a ruined fort and an old 100ft. high lighthouse. The
two temples of Goddess Mariamma in Kaup are famous. The Jain
basadis here are in ruins, but are worth a visit.
Moodabidri
Located some 55Kms from Udupi, Moodabidri has a large number
of Jain Basadi's (temples), the most famous of which is Chandranatha
Basadi popularly known as "Savirakambha Basadi".
This Basadi is a huge structure and has 1000 pillars, no two
of which are identical.
Karkala 
This city is located about 38 Km from Udupi and is a famous
centre of Jainism. There is a 42 foot statue of Bahubali that
was engraved from a single stone at the foot of the hill on
which the temple stands. The temple can be reached by climbing
on a flight of 212 steps that were cut into the rock face
of the hill. Some other temples located here are are Chaturmukha
Basti (1587), Neminatha Basti, Anatapadmanabha Temple(1567)
dedicated to Vishnu, and Venkataramana temple.
Someshwara
It lies at the foot of the Western Ghats and is about 40 Km
from Karkala on Mangalore-Karkala-Agumbe Road. It is well
known for the Someshwara sanctuary.
Agumbe
Located 60 Km from Udupi, Agumbe is known for spectacular
sunsets, sparkling streams, verdant village vistas and an
unspoilt rustic ambience. It is situated at an altitude of
826 m, in Shimoga district. Agumbe and its environs are full
of exciting trekking routes. Forested trails lead from here
to a jungle pond called Emkal Kere, a hillock called Nishani
Gudda and to Barkana Falls.
Kollur 
Amid the green canopy of the Western Ghats lies the village
of Kollur, located 80 Km northeast of Udupi. Here, the Mookambika
Temple, one of the seven sacred spots of the coastal region,
is dedicated to the goddess of emotional power and strength.
It has gold plated crest and copper roofs. Adi Shankaracharya,
the great philosopher, is said to have visited this temple
and performed penance.
Marawanthe
This seaside town is located 40 km from Udupi where
the West Coast Highway cruises along with the Arabian Sea
on one side, and the river Sauparnika against the picturesque
Kodachardi Hills forms a backdrop on the other. Marawanthe
wears the look of a fairyland at sunset when the sky turns
crimson, and the golden rays of the sun are reflected in the
sea as well as the river.
Kumbhashi
This place is located some 25 Km from Udupi. It is known for
its Ganapathi temple, the Anegudde Vinayaka temple, which
attracts several thousand pilgrims everyday.
Jomlutirtha
Fascinating waterfall in Western Ghat situated 42 Km from
Udupi. This cascade of the river Sita creates a beautiful
picnic spot. On the auspicious day of Ellu amavasya, several
thousands of people come to have a dip in the waterfall here.
Kamalashile
It is about 32 Km from Kundapur and is a nature lover's spot
that is filled with streams, caves, lush forests and much
more. The holy temple of Shri Brahmi Durgapareshwari is located
here.
Ottinene
Located about 40 Km north of Kundapur, Ottinane with its overhanging
cliffs is an ideal place for viewing the sunset.
